My best friend was once a co-worker but our friendship is definitely an exception to the rule, and we became close when both of us were no longer with the company. I learned the hard way that co-workers are NOT your friends, no matter what you want to believe.

I got fired for refusing to complete inaccurate, therefore unlawful, medical recoreds. "At Will" employment makes criminals of employees because you will loose your ability TO NOT BECOME HOMELESS (exactly what happened to me 😢) if you dont xommit fraud. It Is the BIGGEST crock of doodoo I have ever heard of. I had to give up my apartment of 7 years and ended up living in my car, and then stress and dissociation caused me to have a wreck because I was in my head too much. Now Im living with strangers (thankful to not be on the streets) and praying to find employment without transportation (relying on others for rides). 😢😢😢. They dobt care how much trauma they cause. That's evil.

Happened to me recently. I was an overachiever from day one, always doing my job perfectly and on time. I was promoted to a role I did not want but they clearly needed someone like me there. Still, I was told by my supervisor and boss that eventually I would be promoted again to a higher role I was very interested in. I kept going above and beyond at the expense of my health, at one point I was doing 3 people's jobs in one. But I kept being patient, thinking I had to "pay my dues" and work myself from the bottom to the top with hard work. Well, one day my lazy coworker who is very careless got the promotion I had been striving for. She was literally promoted over me, even though her quality of work is mediocre. That was the last straw for me. I quit and got a higher paying job in a less stressful environment. I learned my lesson the hard way for sure, but now I know it's just a job and you don't need to "prove" yourself or anything. Just do the bare minimum and whenever needed do more to make a statement and that's it. But for sure, being promoted is not always a good thing unless you want to have that added experience and job title from when you job hunt again.

I'm in a toxic workplace being ostracized by my colleagues and all of the upper management team. Tense work environment because they ignore me and are rude to me all because I'm not there to make friends and refuse to tell people my personal business. I guess i don't fit into the click. My question is, since they clearly have a issue with me and don't like me and treat me like CRAP. Why do they keep me here, they could just get rid of me.

There is strength in having a support group. But if you’re able to heal yourself as an individual (alone), guess what you might have stumbled across a huge power. You can be your own boss. If you can heal yourself: you can be your own boss. You will learn all of the other business related stuff easily… Sometimes their is opportunity amongst the chaos. Never give up. You’ll find a better fit, or you will become IT for yourself.

The sentiment is mutual, fascinating how they'll mirror you but when you mirror your surroundings back suddenly you're subpar and need tips on how to appear more presentable. Beyond this they actively cause conditions to lessen what they've been copying for years: making you downsize or creating conditions such that you'd have to, colluding to make you lose situations, holding your interests beyond what's fair... Truly remarkable. 🤔😑 Stay your distance. Stop telling me what to do. I don't engage.

I needed a job to support my family and I wanted to work anonymously if possible. However a loud mouthed idiot told the world I had a famous name. This cost me a certain promotion and led to repeated comments “ it must be nice” when they discovered I had a cottage. I found out one of my “supervisors” had to seek out and view it. We built the cottage from scratch with lots of sweat equity. There were also personal attacks. When I put my child thru university this also came under examination. The only way I could partially counter all of this was to work focused and harder than anyone else until I could pension out. When I visited one work reunion I watched (for 5 minutes) I watched a co worker walk by without saying hello going to join his clique. I will never return.

Another big sign is if they reward and/or promote bad employees over good ones. This recently happened to me at my work place. All the good employees started leaving months within each other, and bad employees kept getting promoted and moved to higher positions or given more responsabilities, even though that resulted in mistakes and affecting the quality of work of everybody else. The boss just couldn't care less! And when I brought this up to her she built a grudge against me and made sure a training I had asked for to do a better job was given to someone else and not me, basically setting me up for failure.

Sometimes they are. I saw a girl I once worked with (7 years ago... wow) this morning, downtown, I think walking to work. If she's work in there, good for her but I was guilty of "checking her out" :) as I drove by. What can I say,? She's looking good, not that she didn't always look good and she was sweet an nice. Just my type of person. Younger, she was (I think) 27 then, I was early 40's. We did different jobs for the same company. She'd come to the back, look over at me, and wave as she walked by timidly. I'd be thinking "why are you waving at me? Come say hi, I'm right here?!" She's understandably cautious, she's a sweet young woman, I'm a full grown man. I remember getting to close to her in. Noisy environment to ask her what she was saying? What!? leaning into her, not meaning anything by it her response was a quite "no...." So I backed off. She was the type to cry if the mean girl gave her a hard time. It took time, she eventually came around and realized I'm not gonna hurt her. I remember making her laugh her butt off at herself one time, standing in the same place as the time I leaned into her. We'd work nights together at times and the thing about me at this place, at most places is I am dependable and competent. If you want or need things done, I will do it. It will get done, so there's that angle for her and me too. The trust in the team. I remember near the end I hadn't seen her or worked with her in a while, weeks. It was afternoons and nights shift, she comes to the back waves, comes over, shares some info and leaves it with "It's nice to see you here :)" and right back at her, but yeah. There are genuine people. Today, I was checking her out and only realized it was her when she looked at me checking her out... And it hit me. I wanted hell hi! But it' was too late. I've been having nostalgia about that place lately too. It's gone. It isn't what it was. That was the peak and the heyday of that place at that time. I miss the people there. And the job. I'm glad she found a better place.
